eCommerce-Focused Workspace
As many know, EmergeCounsel represents a number of clients in the eCommerce space. If you sell goods rather than services, there will be issues. Many of our eCommerce clients have issues involving the supply chain. The main difficulties involve how the goods are sourced, shipped, branded, marketed, and delivered to the consumer.
Considering we are paid to provide expert advice to avoid and/or resolve supply chain issues, we jumped at the opportunity to move into an eCommerce-focused workspace warehouse in Denver called Saltbox. The move has helped us experience us procurement firsthand.

Logistics
Life at Saltbox is generally calm and quiet, creating a peaceful environment conducive to work. Our suite of offices is close to the content studio, where our team sees excited creative teams capturing new product launches, content for new marketing campaigns, and more. The facility is so large that Steve and his dog, Phoebe, take their daily walk inside the warehouse. On his strolls Steve sees shipping containers being unloaded and inventory in various stages of fulfillment. In the community common area, Steve chats with various entrepreneurs about their experiences in all aspects of their journey. They chat about everything from how they got started to how they decided to transition. Steve has also chatted with some of the Saltbox members from a third-party logistics (3PL) provider to taking their entire operations in-house with help from the logistics experts at Saltbox.
Here are a few observations Steve has so far:
- Self-fulfilment seems entirely doable at Saltbox. The shipments appear relatively easy to load/unload with help from Member Specialists and shipping carriers such as FedEx, USPS, and UPS. Pickups and drop-offs are down to a science without members having to be involved. It seems like the antithesis of chaos.
- Most of the Saltbox members at are organized. There are a lot of moving pieces in self-fulfillment, but the support of the Saltbox staff and the fact that the members can own/have visibility of their entire operation while focusing on more critical aspects of their business seems to bring them peace of mind.
- During a typical workday, the office area is quiet. However, the loading dock is booming, the Location Managers and Member Specialists sorting through shipments, inbounding inventory, and helping load packages onto trucks when carriers arrive in the late afternoon.
Steve spends most of his days as a professional attorney, but he finds it both fun and essential to be exposed to logistics and supply chain management. Steve looks forward to sharing more as he continues to learn from our new dynamic community.
